This land and building have a long history! Originally owned by Henry VIII, the king took that land so that he could hunt and ride. Later on, the Duke of Buckingham built a lavish home on the site. George III purchased the home for his new wife, and scaled back on it’s outward appearance. George IV hired celebrated (and my personal favorite) architect John Nash to completely redesign old Buckingham House into a stunning and glorious Buckingham Palace. Much of the interior was the design of these two gentleman, and as you can see from the pictures above, no expense nor detail were left. Queen Victoria was ecstatic to move in upon her ascension to the throne, and it is said that when she moved in parts of the palace were in complete disarray. Victoria renovated the palace to it’s present day appearance, and added the famous balcony so iconic to the royals today.
